UPDATE: Protek says J&J notifies of suspension of contact lenses imports

(Adds details in last two paragraphs)

MOSCOW, May 25 (PRIME) -- U.S. Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has notified the partners in Russia of a suspension of imports of contact lenses, a spokesperson for pharmaceutical company Protek, which is an official distributor of J&J, told PRIME on Thursday.

"J&J has notified the partners of a suspension of imports of contact lenses," CEO Dmitry Pogrebinsky said, as quoted by the spokesperson.

According to Pogrebinsky, there is a sufficient amount of contact lenses' imports to Russia, and there is no risk of deficit.

A spokesperson for the Industry and Trade Ministry said that producers from several states other than the U.S. have no plans of import suspension.

"It is important that Russian facilities have spare capacities to produce intraocular lenses that allow us to fully cover demand in Russia," the spokesperson said.
